Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy has been shown to be an effective non-pharmacological treatment for pain management and anxiety reduction. Hypnosis is currently being utilized in the treatment of cancer, helping to reduce those side affects commonly associated with traditional treatment regimes. Bodily sensations can be reframed offering a subjective sense of more control and an increased sense of involvement in the treatment process.

Ultimately, the value of hypnosis lies in enabling an individual to enhance inner capacities for creating psychological quiescence and physical comfort. For a suffering cancer patient, relief that comes from within can provide a much-needed experience of personal efficacy and strength. To this end, hypnotherapy has been reported as useful in symptom control and distress in terminal care. A limited retrospective questionnaire suggests that hypnotherapy used within strict guidelines in patients with advanced cancer is a safe complementary therapy to enhance coping.
