Nutrition Consults
A registered, licensed dietitian is on staff to provide nutrition education and counseling to patients, staff and families. The dietitian is available Monday through Friday. Appointments can be made by calling (210) 616-5577.
Nutritional counseling issues include:
- Nutrition risk screening
- Individualized assessment of nutritional needs
- Food intake analysis
- Food-Drug interaction counseling
- Weight management
- Eating problems (difficulty swallowing, etc.)
- Side effects of treatment (nausea, vomiting, constipation, etc.)
- Meal planning
- Specialized supplement counseling; modified diets
- Internal and intravenous nutrition support.
Questions regarding the use of herbs and supplements can be addressed with the dietitian. The dietitian can also provide information pertaining to some complementary therapies that may benefit a patient along with medical therapy.
