Giacomo G. Vecil, MD, serves as assistant professor for the department of neurosurgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Vecil’s research focuses on neurosurgical oncology. Among his special interests is the surgical management of primary and secondary tumors of the brain and spine, alternative treatments for brain tumors (i.e., gene therapy) and the use of intraoperative MRI to improve tumor resection in neurosurgical procedures. Presently one of Dr. Vecil’s research projects is investigating how human bone marrow can be used to treat malignant brain tumors.
