Liver/Pancreas Cancer Information For Physicians

Volume and Outcomes – We are proud to serve the patients of Texas and surrounding states as a quaternary referral center for all hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases.  We pride ourselves on our comprehensive and aggressive capabilities and innovative techniques.  Our referrals come from not only the South Texas area, but as second opinions from other major cancer centers in the surrounding areas.  With a large referral base, our volumes make us a leading center for these diseases.  Our team approach has resulted in excellent outcomes with much lower than expected morbidity or mortality.

Tumor Board – Cases discussed in tumor board will be summarized and correspondence sent to the referring physicians.

Referrals – Referrals can be made to one or all of our specialties.  Once the patient sees one of our physicians, a consultation note will be sent to the referring physicians via letter.  Our surgeons routinely try to discuss cases with the referring physicians via phone as well.

Care Coordination – We are sensitive to the working relations of our referring physicians. If you  refer for surgery and are always willing and sensitive to incorporating the physicians already obtained by the patients.  If you need a surgeon, but are the referring oncologist, we will direct the patient back to you with our findings and recommendations.

Correspondence – Consultation letters are usually mailed to the referring physicians within 5 working days after clinic visit.

Contact Us – If you would like to speak to one of our surgeons directly, dial (210) 567-5771 (Transplant Office) during working hours or (210) 358-4000 (After hours).  There are always two surgeons on call and they can all be reached by calling the hospital operator.
