Cancer Center Membership

Purpose

The Cancer Therapy and Research Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) is an Organized Research Unit (ORU) of the UTHSCSA, and as such is subject to the rules and guidelines set out for ORUs. The CTRC, an NCI-Designated Cancer Center, has a formal membership policy in support of the cancer center's mission to promote interdisciplinary research in cancer-related areas of basic science, clinical research, and cancer prevention and control, and to foster the application of the results of that research in the community setting, especially in the South Texas community serviced by this cancer.

Policy

  1. The Cancer Therapy & Research Center members will meet eligibility criteria for membership in one of two categories: Full Member or Associate Member. Full and Associate categories are open to UTHSCSA faculty members and CTRC professional research staff and external significant collaborators who are engaged in cancer-related activities relevant to the mission of the CTRC. According to NCI criteria, program members may contribute in any of the four missions of the cancer center - research, education, dissemination, and care. Some cancer center members have or may establish sustained collaborations with scientists who have no formal appointment within UTHSCSA or CTRC, but who strengthen and enhance value-added interactions and the scientific productivity of the research of the CTRC members. Such collaborators who are not from other NCI supported cancer centers are eligible to become CTRC members. Cancer Therapy and Research Center Members will comply with the responsibilities of membership.

  2. Cancer Therapy and Research Center Membership will be reviewed every two years in compliance with NCI guidelines. Reapplication and requalification will be necessary.
