Dr. Washburn is the Valero Distinguished Professor of Surgery and director of liver transplantation in the Transplant Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Washburn received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988 and completed general surgery training at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston and a fellowship in multi-organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery at the Harvard-New England Deaconess Hospital. Dr. Washburn has been a faculty member since at the Health Science Center since 1997 following three years in the U.S. Air Force. He has an active practice in liver and renal transplantation as well as hepatobiliary surgery. Areas of expertise include laparoscopic and open complex liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery for benign and malignant disease.
